Firstly let me begin by telling you that making money on the internet is not a myth, people do do it and they also earn allot of money doing it. The trick is to find a system that works, test and adjust, and duplicate that success. The problem most marketers have, and probably the main reason why most marketers fail is because they don’t learn a system, they simply learn the basics of a certain method of advertising and spend allot of money failing at it.

The key to making money on the internet, and this is a massive element is “list building.” This is where you as a marketer would create an opt in list of people who are interested in a certain field or subject and also approve to receive periodic emails from you. You build a relationship with your subscribers and sell to them, it is as simple as that.

There are many different methods of building lists and you can even build a list while trying to sell someone something. One of these methods is creating “squeeze pages,” this is where you direct a prospect to an opt in page, tempting them with what ever it is that you are trying to sell.

I’ll use back ache during pregnancy as an example to show you what I mean.

Say there was a website called CureBackAcheDuringPregnancy.com and on this website they sold a downloadable book on the causes and cures of backache during pregnancy. Now lets say that you want to promote that book. You can either direct customers directly to the “landing page” (the page with the product on it) and hope to make a sale, or you can create a squeeze page to capture their details and add them to your list before sending them to that page. The latter has better options for you because you can follow up with regular sales pitches and emails and hopefully generate a larger income than if you simply just promoted the book outright.

You now see how this can be profitable, and if you take into consideration that if someone is looking for a book to cure back ache during pregnancy, it’s pretty safe to say that within less than nine months time you can start selling them other products related to their baby such as health advice, good parenting etc.

The trick is to think outside the box and always think about what your customers need.

Go For Niche Affiliate Marketing Programs

When people start out as affiliates they think that if they offer something to people who want to make money on the internet, they will make money themselves. It’s called selling shovels to gold diggers. Instead, you should look for niche affiliate marketing programs.


Sure, when you set up the ONLY store in a town booming with gold finds, then you would do very well selling shovels and other tools. Maybe you could even name your own price.


Don’t compete with 60 million sites


The Internet may offer lots of opportunities, but the gold digging days are over. Now, there are 60 million websites selling products aimed at making money online. Do you think you have a chance of competing with 60 million, and getting your web page ranked highly or even be able to advertise cheaply? No way.


Compete with a few thousand in niches


The sane alternative is to look for niches or niche affiliate marketing programs. So how do you do this? Well, you look for a market, a market that has plenty of people interested in buying things in it. Here are a couple of big markets of this type: Golfers and pet owners, both of whom spend a lot of money are interested in new things to buy in that niche.


But these are big markets, not niches. You need to work out your own niche affiliate marketing program which is a micro-niche within that niche. Here’s an example of a micro-niche: wolfdogs. These dogs are actually crossed between German Shepherds and wolves, and they are bred mainly in central Europe. They are rare, but there is a band of people interested in them.


Now I am not suggesting you should get into that niche, as these dogs are not allowed in many countries, but you can see that this is a very small niche. Labrador dogs would be a niche but a bigger one, and training labrador dogs would be another small one.


Find if the market is buoyant


But it is no good just picking out a subject like that. Once you think of a niche, here are a couple of tests to see if it is worth getting into. First, go to amazon.com or EBay, and see if there are many products related to that niche. You can also get a ranking at amazon.com for top-selling books in different market segments, which is a useful check. In fact, golf does not figure that highly, because golfers buy equipment mostly.


Once you have ascertained that the basic market is worthwhile, you need to make sure that people are advertising in this sector. The easy way to do this is to go to Google and search for the term for your micro-niche, not the main niche. Are they any Adwords adverts on the right of the main entries? If the market is buoyant, there should be a whole column of them.


Next, you need to find affiliate products that fit the market, and fit it well. Always do things this way round, and you will succeed: find the market, then find the product to fit that market. Then get marketing!

What do you mean you don’t have a mailing list? Didn’t anyone tell you that the money is in the list? Oh! I see you are only just starting online, and you only have a hobby. Well, there is a problem with having just a hobby online, in that the majority of people, who do, make very little money.

It is nice to have a website relating to your hobby, but do you think it would be better to turn that into becoming an online business owner, and having a great income and business?

One of the first things you should do is start to build your list. Yes, there is money to be made through your list, but only when you have a list.

How do you go about building your list and what do you do when you are suddenly faced with a list who want information from you?

This is a step many people forget about, they concentrate so hard on building their list, which they forget that the list will want to hear from them as well.

The simple part is to put an opt-in page on your site, and have a hook for them to sign up. But, the real work is the follow ups that you need to do. You might need to start writing content and then find products to recommend and sell to the list.

What do you mean you don’t plan on selling, how do you think you will make any money if you never sell to them. You need both content and products; it is a balance of the two.

If you are using a downline builder, then you will find your list builder faster than you had imagined. The people who sign up to your list will also be wanting to get their list growing fast, and they will in turn be looking for people to sign up for their list.

As this list becomes a viral network, you will be able to send them great content. By that, you will have them waiting to read the next chapter. It will be like reading that novel which keeps you on the edge of your seat. You send them enough content to keep them interested, but leave them wanting more.

They become hungry, and hungry people need to be fed. When you keep them waiting long enough, you can then put in the product you are selling. They have become so hungry, that they are immediately clicking to find out the solution to their hunger. They’ll want to know if they can learn something to pass onto their list, and make more money from them as well.

It is a never ending circle, you build your list, they build their list, you earn money from your list, and they earn money from their list. If you work on giving them the content not only to learn from but to make money from they will be buying from you, and your subscribers will be worth a lot more than $1 a month.

Niche Preservation: How To Carve Yours And Make A Profitable Membership Site

Membership marketing is the dream of several web entrepreneurs. Ideally, you want to do something, or find something regularly enough, that people will pay you money to tell them about it, or provide a service that they will pay money to get access to. Membership sites, done right, can bring in multiple income streams. Doing them right means doing targeted marketing and services and content. Targeting your market properly is a three step process.

Identify. If you already have a market in mind, great. You’re ahead of the game. Now, the next step is to see if it’s a market that will generate income. While generating a membership web site that just has members and no income is great ego boosting, it’s not good for the wallet. The key to identifying your niche is slicing it as fine as possible. For example, if your passion is classic cars, and passing on information about parts and refurb shops, that’s one thing – if you make it classic Camaros, you’ll target only those people with a passion for that make and model of car, and given the volumes of information pouring in to them every day, getting information targeted to what they want is worth more money. The basic equation of content is that paying you money saves your customer the time of trying to find the things you’re finding for them.

Brainstorming targeted niches needn’t be focused on a particular product. It also works to target a particular demographic, or a geographical area. Talk to your family, your friends, and business associates, and see if you can find that winning combination of membership niche and focus to get a nice stable business.

If you don’t have a market in mind already, focus on what you have a passion to research and what you have a passion to do.

Determine Demand. There are a number of ways to determine the demand of a niche. Start out old school – go the library and go to the book store. Look for what’s on the best seller list, look for topic areas of the library getting lots of traffic and look for sections of the book store, like cooking or religion or home repair, where an adjunct web site can provide timely information

Next, do keyword research for AdWords on Google, and look for things that got “missed”. Start from the general and work to the more specific, and again, focus on topics that you enjoy researching and have a passion about. This can help find several nice possibilities for profitable niches.

Keyword searches are great metrics for determining demand.

Research The Subject And Customer Demands. Go beyond keyword research to isolate and identify your target market. If your aim is off, your profits will be too. Look on forums and chat rooms; they’re a fascinating cross section of your potential market. The people who hang there are the most dedicated of your customers, and you can observe them anonymously. Look for the things they’re searching for and provide it.

If you’re feeling bold, register for the forum and talk to them. Ask questions. Look at the answers. You don’t want to give away the store, but a little Q&A is a good thing for identifying your customer base, and locking in on their needs.

You should also dig in to relevant web sites. Look at what sites are serving the niche you’re targeting and ask yourself what you can do better. Look at the products they’re offering, look at the advertisers on their sites as well; visit the sponsored sites and learn, learn, learn.

Back up your online research with another library visit. Read the specialist magazines devoted to your topic. Look at what products are being advertised, look at their editorial guidelines and look at their article submissions. Remember that magazine advertising costs anywhere from $800 per page to $5,000 per page – any company advertising here is probably worth approaching about advertising or affiliate marketing from your web site.

Research other informational sites – start with article directories, like ezinearticles.com Dig deep into them, and see what demand there is for the information. Look at the sites of the people posting articles and take notes about what they’re doing right that you can copy, and what you can do better to get an edge.
